God's grace touched my life with salvation over forty-four years ago! I have been pastoring at the Vineyard since 2001 after almost twenty years in youth ministry. Most of all I enjoy studying and teaching God's Word. Lisa and I have been married for over twenty-six years and we have three great kids. My two heros of the faith are John Bunyan and William Tyndale. My life verse is Isaiah 30:15 "In repentance and rest you will be saved, in quietness and trust is your strength."

I was born in Jacksonville, Florida in 1946. My family moved to Tucson in the early 1950’s as a result of my dad being hired at Hughes Aircraft (Raython). I’ve lived in Tucson ever since with the exception of the three years I was in the Army. I became a follower of Christ in 1965 as a result of a friend sharing the good news with me. I was attending the University of Arizona at the time and graduated from the U of A after my time in the Army. I am married to Valerie and we have two adult children - Amy and Tim, and we have two grandsons who we delight in. I have always had a passion for university students, so being at the Vineyard is a great match. I’ve been a pastor here since 1990 and enjoy helping the believers to know Christ better, know His Word and to walk in the steps He has ordered for them.

Micah Coate

Born January 17, 1979 in Tucson, Arizona. I accepted the Lord in full when I was twenty and have been following Him ever since. I desire for my life to reflect the exhortation in Matthew 6, to "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness" I am entering my sixth year as the Youth Pastor here and although I might be losing the popularity contest with the students I am ready to bring on another five years - Like it or not. Me and my wife Kelley will soon celebrate our second year of marriage. We have two dogs and a cozy little house that we sometimes love to work on. I like hunting, fishing, reading, writing, and an occasional wrestling match.

I have been involved with children’s ministry for 12 years and helping on staff for over 1 year. I am one class short of an Associate's Degree in Youth Care. I have worked at Lamb’s Gate Preschool for 3 years as a teacher. God has put a special love in my heart to serve children. I have a passion for touching children's hearts to love God. The LORD has impressed on my heart the most important lesson in life is to teach children His love for them, and that He is our Creator. Everything else will be learned in time. He has reaffirmed in me that one purpose I have in this life is to be a voice and hands of His love to children. I thank Him for the opportunity to be His vessel.

My mere existence is ultimately due to Christ's saving power and His loving persistence. There have also been people He has placed strategically in my life who have reflected His image, pouring healing, grace and love over me. My journey with Jesus began in the small community of Arivaca, Arizona where members of an evangelical church invited me and my sisters to Sunday School and VBS. It was not until several years later when a family friend seized the opportunity to lead me (and subsequently my whole family) to a decision to accept Christ as savior. In college I began to realize that I had another choice. I could be religious by going to church every week and doing "right" things that make me look good or I could enter into a real relationship with God that is honoring to Him rather than self-glorifying. I have always found it pretty easy to be a "moral" person, I'm a rule follower. But God was pursuing the real me. He wanted to get at my true self and for me to get a good look at my need for Him. Unless I recognize that any good in me comes from God, I am on a path to self-destruction. Unless I admit that my life is to be lived for the One who died for me, my life is meaningless. My ministry to children comes out of that recognition and a desire to come alongside them as they begin their own glorious journey.

I was born and raised in upstate New York in a Catholic family. It was not until my sophomore year of college, when Jesus unexpectedly delivered me from my darkest moments, that I truly understood the awesome saving grace of God and got to know Him personally. Psalm 32. I moved to Tucson 2½ years ago and even though I still miss my New York home like crazy, my love for the Vineyard fellowship keeps me here! I am currently living with my sister, two dogs, two cats, and a hamster, and am very blessed.

While serving in the USAF, I was saved at 20 in 1971 from a life of selfishness to one of service. I gave myself to Christ, my wife Shelley, my three grown daughters, and to the Christian community. I started serving from 1977 to the present as a Vineyard elder, worship leader, small group leader, and occasional pulpit teacher. When not in Tucson, I travel the world serving Christian schools for the Association of Christian Schools International as a consultant and seasoned educator. My life has been guided by the exhortation from Paul in II Corinthians to "keep my mind from being led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ." While known by my daughters as one who can leap tall buildings in a single bound, no empirical proof of this skill has actually been recorded.

I have been attending the Vineyard since 1981. I believe that our purpose as a fellowship is to remain relevant to the world around us, but also to hold onto the unchanging truths of the Scriptures. I appreciate the message of Phil 1:6 'And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.'

I have been attending the Vineyard for thirty-five years now. I been married to my wife Kara for thirty-six years. We have five children (4) boys and (1) girl, ranging from 18 to 34 yrs. We are also blessed with five grandchildren and are continuing to count. Something you might not know: I was Jimi Hendrix's personal body guard for a concert at ASU in 1970. Besides being Jimmy’s best friend, I enjoy hunting, fishing, and guitar picking. I have also coached youth / club soccer for twenty-eight years. My favorite verse in the Bible is Philippians 4: 4-8.

I came to know and accept Christ at the ripe age of 28 in Ben Lomond, California. My spritual background was in the Catholic Church but lacked a personal relationship with the living God. The foundation that was laid came to fruition in California when it was revealed to me how Christ died for my sin and wanted a personal relationship with me. My wife Melva and I attended a small non-denominational church for a couple of years and then switched to a Calvary Chapel until moving to Tucson in 1982. When we first arrived in Tucson we attended Tucson Bible Fellowship before it became Abundant Life. Melva and I have been apart of the Vineyard since 1986. We have been in two different community groups in this time. I was approached to join the Elder leadership about ten years ago. I am the computer nerd of the elder group and have been a small voice in the background suggesting the use and purchase of computer technology in the Vineyard offices and sancuary.

I discovered the gift of God’s salvation through Jesus in a Sunday school class at about six years of age. My relationship with the Lord has grown in fits and starts since that time, with years of rebellion between the ages of fourteen and young adulthood. I then returned to the Lord, bringing my brokenness and my sense of awe in Who He is. I now offer Him the sacrifice of praise. He continues to equip me to work as a primary care physician in Tucson where I have practiced since 1974. I know he gives me knowledge and experience that help those He brings to me. I enjoy hiking and spending time with family and friends. Fishing trips and exploring new areas of the world renew my sense of wonder in the Creator and provide me with a necessary Sabbath. New vistas and relationships expand my awareness of His power and purpose for us here on Earth. One of my favorite verses is Ephesians 2:10, "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for the good works for which He designed us." My wife Connie and I will be married forty years in June 2008, and we have three adult children. My wife and children are clearly gifts from God. In the past few years I have become more aware of God’s goodness to me and my family. He has called and prepared each of us with rich gifts exhibiting His mercy and grace. His love abounds more and more and is evident in our wealth of friends and our awareness of His purposes in our calling in our church family and in each of our vocations.

I have been attending the Vineyard for about 20 years now and have been serving as an elder for 10. God has blessed me with my wife, Debi and our two children, Jennifer and Matthew. We are still waiting for grandchildren. I own Alamo Steel, a local buisness in structural steel & ornamental metal work. I enjoy working on cars, the outdoors, and hunting. I thank God for the work He has done with not only my life but my family’s as well. We are grateful to be a part of the Vineyard body.
