Tears, Ashes & Trumpets

March 27 & 28, 2021

Call to worship

Read aloud as a call to Worship:

I will extol You, my God and King,

and bless Your name forever and ever.

Every day I will bless You and praise Your name forever and ever.

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised,

and His greatness is unsearchable.

One generation shall commend Your works to another,

and shall declare Your mighty acts.

On the glorious splendor of Your majesty,

and on Your wondrous works, I will meditate.

They shall speak of the might of Your awesome deeds,

and I will declare Your greatness.

They shall pour forth the fame of Your abundant goodness

and shall sing aloud of Your righteousness.

The Lord is gracious and merciful,

slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

The Lord is good to all, and His mercy is over all that He has made.

All your works shall give thanks to You,

O Lord, and all Your saints shall bless You!

They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom and tell of Your power, to make known to the children of man Your mighty deeds,

and the glorious splendor of Your kingdom.

Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,

and Your dominion endures throughout all generations.

The Lord upholds all who are falling

and raises up all who are bowed down.

The eyes of all look to You,

and You give them their food in due season.

You open Your hand; You satisfy the desire of every living thing.

The Lord is righteous in all His ways and kind in all His works.

The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.

He fulfills the desire of those who fear Him;

He also hears their cry and saves them.

The Lord preserves all who love Him,

but all the wicked He will destroy.

My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord,

and let all flesh bless His holy name forever and ever.

Psalm 145

scripture reading

Read aloud:

My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?

Why are You so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?

O my God, I cry by day, but You do not answer,

and by night, but I find no rest.

Yet You are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel.

In You our fathers trusted; they trusted, and You delivered them.

To You they cried and were rescued;

Be not far from me, for trouble is near, and there is none to help.

—Psalm 22:1–5a, 11

scripture reading

Read aloud:

Out of the depths I cry to You, O Lord!

O Lord, hear my voice!

Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my pleas for mercy!

If You, O Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?

But with You there is forgiveness, that You may be feared.

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,

and in His word I hope;

my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning,

Hope in the Lord!

For with the Lord there is steadfast love,

and with Him is plentiful redemption.

And He will redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

—Psalm 130

scripture reading

Read aloud:

Open to me the gates of righteousness,

that I may enter through them and give thanks to the Lord.

This is the gate of the Lord; the righteous shall enter through it.

I thank You that You have answered me

and have become my salvation.

The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.

This is the Lord's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.

This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!

We bless You from the house of the Lord.

The Lord is God, and He has made His light to shine upon us.

Bind the festal sacrifice with cords, up to the horns of the altar!

You are my God, and I will give thanks to You;

You are my God; I will extol You.

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;

for His steadfast love endures forever!

—Psalm 118:19–29

Offer up prayers of thanksgiving and praise:

For who God is

For what He has done in the world
For what He has done in You

Have someone read this aloud:

As we are sent out, it is with tears, ashes, and trumpets that we best represent the heart of God to the world. He sorrows over the world, He confronts sin yet forgives with grace and mercy, and He alone is worthy of praise. That is the God we are sent to reflect.

May the grace of Christ, which daily renews us,

and the love of God, which enables us to love one another,

and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, which unites us as one body,

make us eager to obey the will of the God until we meet again,

though Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
